At Smokehouse Holešovice, in Prague, a distributed audio system was designed for a venue combining a restaurant, bar and shisha lounge. The system is mainly used for background music, while the venue also hosts DJ sessions at weekends.
For this project, 15 Lynx Pro Audio loudspeakers were installed across different areas of the venue, together with two RS4-4000 amplifiers and an Allen & Heath AHM-16 matrix processor.
The installation was carried out by MS AVX, our distributor and local partner in the Czech Republic.
A distribution adapted to each area
The installation combines two models from the BS Series, selected according to the requirements of each area.
In the two main areas, 9 × BS-8 loudspeakers were installed. This is a passive two-way enclosure featuring an 8″ transducer and a 1″ compression driver, designed for fixed-installation applications.
The BS-8 features a rotatable 90° × 60° horn, allowing the coverage to be oriented according to the layout of the space. Its frequency response is 70 Hz to 18 kHz ±3 dB, with 300 W AES, 600 W program power and a nominal impedance of 8 Ω.
For the smaller areas of the venue, 6 × BS-5 loudspeakers were used. Its compact format, with a 5″ transducer and 1″ tweeter, allows the system to remain discreet in areas where a larger enclosure is not required.
The BS-5 provides a frequency response of 65 Hz to 20 kHz, with 80 W AES and 160 W program power.
The 15 enclosures are therefore not distributed uniformly throughout the venue. Instead, each model is used where its format and characteristics are suited to the dimensions of the area.
Sound systems for restaurants: amplification and control
The installation is powered by 2 × RS4-4000, four-channel amplifiers from Lynx Pro Audio.
Each RS4-4000 provides four amplifier channels, delivering 630 W per channel at 8 Ω and 1000 W at 4 Ω. This configuration provides a multichannel amplification platform suitable for a distributed system such as the one installed at Smokehouse Holešovice.
System management is handled by an Allen & Heath AHM-16, a 16 × 16 audio matrix used as the central point for signal routing and processing.
In this project, the AHM-16 allows the different zones to be managed independently, including volume control and source selection from a smartphone, tablet or PC.
This is particularly useful in a venue with different uses and environments, as not all areas necessarily need to operate at the same level or use the same audio source.
From background music to DJ sessions
The system is designed to cover the two main operating scenarios at Smokehouse Holešovice.
During normal operation, the BS-8 and BS-5 loudspeakers provide distributed background music across the restaurant, bar and shisha lounge areas.
At weekends, the same installation is also used for DJ sessions. The infrastructure can accommodate these different scenarios without requiring two separate sound systems.
This is where the distribution of the enclosures and independent zone management become particularly relevant. The objective is not simply to install a given number of loudspeakers, but to define which model is used in each part of the venue and how it is subsequently integrated into the control system.
A system designed around the project
Smokehouse Holešovice provides a practical example of how a Lynx Pro Audio system can be configured for a hospitality venue: combining different loudspeaker formats, multichannel amplification and zone management to address the actual requirements of the space.
