Sound System Upgrade at SkyFi Castalia Stadium

Sound System Upgrade at SkyFi Castalia Stadium

The SkyFi Castalia Stadium, home of Club Deportivo Castellón, has completed the technical upgrade of its sound infrastructure. This venue, inaugurated in 1987 with a capacity for 14,500 spectators, required a rigorous modernization to meet current standards of intelligibility and sound pressure levels (SPL) demanded in the professional football arena.

The project, distributed by NID (Neec Iberia Distribución) and installed by Raser Eventos, has enabled the integration of Lynx Pro Audio loudspeaker enclosures into the stadium’s complex architecture, ensuring stable and predictable electroacoustic performance.

The Technical Challenge

The stadium’s architecture, divided into two full tiers, presented the challenge of achieving uniform sound dispersion without creating dead zones or unwanted reflections. To address this, the Rainbow 3D acoustic prediction software was utilized, allowing for the simulation of system behavior prior to installation and ensuring that sound pressure levels (SPL) remained consistent across all listening areas.

The Implemented Solution

A multipoint installation was designed and distributed across three distinct zones, utilizing point source systems optimized for outdoor environments:

  • Upper Tier (Main Stand, Preferential, and End Stands): The upper ring features the integration of CPS Series enclosures (CPS-14/96MG) and HR Series units (HR-1296/7MG). The CPS series, based on tri-amplified coaxial technology, was selected for its high power density and compact design, providing the primary reinforcement for critical throws. Meanwhile, HR series units were strategically positioned in the Main Stand and the corners of both End Stands to complete the acoustic coverage.

  • Lower Tier (Lower Ring): To ensure intelligibility in rows closest to the pitch, 52 units of the Juno Series (specifically the JN-8T enclosure) were deployed. These compact 8-inch systems are installed on the rear pillars, providing direct, clear near-field coverage for spectators in these areas, thereby avoiding excessive sound pressure levels from a single centralized source.

System Control

The entire system is powered by GTX Series amplifiers (model GTX-14K) and managed via the OCS (Online Control System) software. This technology enables real-time monitoring and dynamic adjustment of each zone, ensuring efficient performance tailored to the specific requirements of every event.

With this upgrade, the SkyFi Castalia stadium now features a sound infrastructure aligned with professional football standards, enhancing the fan experience through clear, balanced audio.

An acoustic project for a high-activity social venue

14 Gradi Lounge Bar, located in Cernusco sul Naviglio (Milán), is a venue known for its combination of contemporary dining, live music, and nightlife events. Its demanding schedule requires a versatile professional sound system, capable of operating at moderate levels during dining service, and at higher levels for DJ sessions and periods of high attendance.

In such an environment, the performance of the audio system relies not only on sound pressure but on its ability to maintain coherence, operational stability, and coverage control within a space where public traffic and furniture layout change throughout the day. For this audio installation project, Freeport Pro, the official distributor for Lynx Pro Audio in Italy, and the installer Piero Atzeni (Audiosistemi) developed a complete solution utilising a selection of Lynx Pro Audio systems from the HR, BS, and MH series.

System design and performance

The main system was built around HR-206 enclosures, a two-way model offering controlled directivity and an exceptionally clean mid-range response, which is paramount in spaces where audience density can vary and intelligibility is the primary requirement. The deployment of twelve units allowed for distributed and homogeneous coverage, thereby avoiding the need to operate at high levels from a single source. This successfully reduces unwanted reflections and maintains a more balanced listening experience throughout the room.

Low-frequency reinforcement was capably handled by HR-215S subwoofers. Their dual 15-inch architecture provides a stable foundation without compromising definition. Their capacity to deliver uniform pressure without generating excessive bass build-up proved particularly useful in a room with an irregular floor plan, where modal management is critical.

In areas requiring specific focus on presence and clarity, BS-112 subwoofers were integrated. Their neutral behaviour, coupled with their compact format, makes them suitable for support points where vocal intelligibility and the perception of detail must be maintained, even in the presence of higher ambient music levels.

System amplification and control

The entire sound installation was managed using MH series amplifiers, which fulfil both the amplification requirement and internal DSP processing roles. A selection of MH4-4000, MH2-3200, and MH2-1500 units were used, configured with application-specific equalisation curves and precise limiters adapted to the measured acoustic behaviour of the space.

This integrated architecture is designed to ensure safe and stable operation, maintaining adequate headroom margins and precise dynamic control. Furthermore, it allows for practical system adjustments to be performed without disrupting the venue’s continuous daily schedule.

A solution aligned with the lounge bar’s needs

The resulting audio system is a thoroughly capable solution, designed to competently address the varied operational scenarios at 14 Gradi Lounge Bar: from low-level daytime ambience right through to evening sessions, live music, and specific events. The performance synergy across the distinct enclosure families, the HR Series for comprehensive main coverage, the BS Series for targeted zonal support, and the MH Series amplifiers for overall power management, enables the venue to readily handle fluctuations in occupancy and musical dynamics without any loss of control or tonal coherence.

Freeport Pro and Audiosistemi executed the installation, expertly attending to both the stringent acoustic requirements and the critical need for aesthetic integration. This ensures the system’s presence is seamlessly incorporated into the venue’s architecture whilst maintaining uncompromised performance.

Ultimately, this was a technical intervention founded on clear acoustic criteria and the proven ability of the Lynx Pro Audio equipment to maintain stability, linearity, and efficiency in an environment where music is an essential component of the customer experience.

The secret behind the acoustics at TODOS Restaurant in Gwalior

The secret behind the acoustics at TODOS Restaurant in Gwalior

In the city of Gwalior, known for its growing gastronomic and cultural activity, TODOS Restaurant stands out as a space that combines dining, contemporary design, and a socially focused approach centred on outdoor events and carefully constructed indoor environments. Its layout is divided into two clearly differentiated areas: a spacious terrace that serves as the main area for music and social gatherings, and a more contained interior where acoustics depend directly on the architecture and the constant flow of guests.

This duality makes the installation particularly interesting from a technical perspective. Each area presents its own requirements in terms of directivity, sound pressure level, and tonal stability, necessitating the selection of systems capable of maintaining a coherent listening experience in both environments. To meet these demands, solutions from two of our product families were chosen: JUNO and WCX enclosures for the outdoor area, and BS enclosures in combination with an HR subwoofer for the interior.

The terrace functions as an open stage subject to environmental variations, audience movement, and fluctuating sound pressure levels depending on the type of event. Such spaces require enclosures capable of projecting with controlled directivity, withstanding outdoor conditions, and maintaining tonal stability even during extended periods of use. To address these needs, WCX and JUNO-8 cabinets were deployed, paired with a outdoor HR-218/20 subwoofer, specifically designed for outdoor applications. This combination allows wide-area coverage with controlled dispersion, ensuring intelligibility and stable musical reproduction without the need to excessively increase the overall system level.

In the interior area, the acoustic behaviour changes significantly. The presence of absorptive elements and a smaller volume requires a compact, precise system capable of maintaining a balanced response for music playback. In this space, BS-10 enclosures were installed alongside an HR-218/20 subwoofer, a configuration that provides controlled low-frequency reinforcement and a well-defined sound image without interfering with the audience experience. The birch construction and rotatable waveguide of the BS-10 deliver stable directivity, which is essential in environments where listeners are in close proximity.

The final integration of the system was carried out with the aim of maintaining a homogeneous sonic signature between the interior and exterior. The symmetrical dispersion of the JUNO series, the controlled behaviour of the BS enclosures, and the linearity of the HR subwoofers facilitate smooth transitions between areas, regardless of occupancy or environmental conditions. The system guarantees a stable response under any operational condition, maintaining precise control over directivity and ensuring coherent reproduction even with increased sound pressure levels. This ensures that each area of the space receives exactly the acoustic performance projected in the design, meeting the established coverage and uniformity criteria.

Outdoor installation at Hotel Playa Golf, Mallorca

Outdoor installation at Hotel Playa Golf, Mallorca

Designing a reliable sound system for hotel exteriors requires more than just placing weatherproof speakers around a terrace. It involves understanding the real acoustic and operational needs of each area: how the space is used, how sound behaves in open-air environments, and how to ensure consistent performance over time.

At Hotel Playa Golf, a four-star resort facing Playa de Palma, one of Mallorca’s busiest coastal destinations the challenge was clear. With constant outdoor activity during high season and full exposure to sun, humidity, and salty air, this project called for an audio solution tailored for durability, coverage, and seamless integration into the architecture and daily operation of the hotel.

Installing a professional outdoor audio system in a hospitality environment like this means accounting for multiple uses: background music, events, and live sessions, all in open areas with little acoustic control. Standard sound systems aren’t designed for this level of demand. That’s why equipment selection, layout, and signal processing in this project followed strict technical criteria.

To provide background music across pool areas, terraces, and walkways, JUNO-8T loudspeakers were installed. These compact 8” passive speakers include a 100 V line transformer for low-impedance distribution and deliver a 90° x 50° dispersion, 92 dB sensitivity (1 W/1 m). Designed for permanent use outdoors, they feature a treated plywood enclosure, polyurea coating, and IP46-rated weather protection.

In spaces that demand higher SPL, such as event zones or areas with amplified content, HR-208 loudspeakers were added. These passive two-way speakers include an 8” woofer and a 1” compression driver on a constant directivity horn, offering 96 dB sensitivity and 400 W AES power handling. Their polyurea-coated enclosures and corrosion-resistant steel grilles ensure durability even in harsh weather.

Sub-bass reinforcement is handled by HR-18/10 subwoofers. This high-performance subwoofer features an 18″ driver with a 3″ copper voice coil, delivering a frequency response of 46 Hz to 200 Hz (±3 dB) and a sensitivity of 101 dB (1W@1m). Capable of producing a maximum SPL of 135 dB peak, it operates with 1000 W RMS (4000 W peak) power handling. Designed for omnidirectional coverage, it includes an active crossover and 8 Ω nominal impedance.
