Outdoor sound systems for beach clubs and terraces

Outdoor sound systems for beach clubs and terraces

During the summer season, venues such as beach clubs, terraces, rooftops or outdoor dining areas require outdoor sound systems specifically designed to operate in demanding conditions. Good-response loudspeakers are not enough: the system must operate stably for hours, with direct exposure to the sun, salt spray, high humidity and sudden temperature changes. In these environments, an installation must be unobtrusive, robust and capable of providing uniform coverage without compromising durability or sound quality.

Professional loudspeakers with weather-resistant version must be constructed of materials resistant to moisture, dust and corrosion. But in addition to physical sealing, it is critical that the acoustic design be optimized for outdoor environments: with controlled directivity, good midrange sensitivity, and performance stability at moderate levels over long days. Lynx Pro Audio offers a number of weather-certified solutions, including the JUNO, HR (MG version) or WCX series all with variants prepared for direct exposure.

JUNO Series: Compact and discreet outdoor sound

The JUNO series represents a compact, discreet and highly efficient solution for fixed outdoor installations. Available in 6 “and 8” models, JUNO combines a lightweight construction with IP46 certification, high-strength polyurea finish and transducers selected for their thermal stability and mechanical resistance. This type of system makes it ideal for restaurant terraces, chill-out areas and installations where visual integration is key.

Juno miniature commercial audio

Installations in terraces, rooftops, and hospitality venues require loudspeakers capable of delivering high sound pressure levels with consistent performance in challenging outdoor environments. The HR series in its Marine Grade (MG) version is specifically designed to meet these demands.

HR MG Series: High performance and Marine-Grade resistance

Solutions such as the HR-218/36 MG subwoofer and the full-range HR-1264/5 MG and HR-1296/5 MG models deliver powerful, high-fidelity sound, making them ideal for long-term outdoor installations where both audio performance and durability are critical.

A common practice in real-world installations is to combine both series. In the Lawn Beach Bar in Bali, for example, JUNO and WCX loudspeakers were used for the wide and discreet coverage areas, complemented by HR MG series subwoofers, thus achieving a balanced system with excellent response across the entire spectrum and without compromising weather resistance.

Another example is the Marina Beach Club in Valencia or the Sundays Beach Club in Bali, where JUNO, WCX and HR loudspeaker systems have been installed, intelligently combining acoustic performance, visual integration and structural strength. These projects demonstrate that with the right technical approach it is possible to maintain consistent sound quality even in demanding environments.

In installations with outdoor sound systems, the acoustic design must be accompanied by a strategic placement of the emission points. The use of a distributed system not only improves the homogeneity of the coverage, but also reduces the disturbance to the environment. The orientation should be aligned with the listening plane, avoiding projecting sound onto reflective surfaces such as glass facades or hard floors. Structurally, the use of specific stainless steel or anodized aluminum hardware is essential to ensure stability against wind, vibration or corrosion.

Operational control and system management

Finally, there is the issue of operational control. In most of these spaces there is no resident technician, so system management must be simple, secure and automatable. The LUKA digital processors allow you to configure the system by zones, set volume limits, apply equalization curves and program on/off schedules. This ensures smooth operation, reduces the risk of overload and keeps the system running reliably throughout opening hours.

Each outdoor sound system project presents unique conditions: from the architecture of the space and the type of use, to the user profile and environmental exposure. There is no standard solution, but there are fundamental principles that apply in each case: the use of systems specifically designed for outdoor environments, a rigorous acoustic design based on technical criteria, and the implementation of high-strength materials that guarantee durability.

SLVJ, an exotic restaurant inside the 5-star “Only You” hotel

SLVJ, an exotic restaurant inside the 5-star “Only You” hotel

SLVJ (Salvaje) is a trendy restaurant, located in the lobby of the five-star “Only You” hotel in the centre of Valencia. The venue is divided in two floors: a ground floor where parties are organised and the upper floor with the main room and an interior terrace.

This restaurant is based on three premises: a wild gastronomic proposal, a professional cocktail bar and a place where music and atmosphere combine. At SLVJ you don’t just go to eat, you go to have fun.

On the ground floor, the club area, is where customers can have free rein to their wildest side. The party is guaranteed with a luxurious atmosphere; with waiters, dancers and a DJ in the booth to liven up the service and create a party atmosphere. At SLVJ the music takes centre stage as the evening progresses and the cocktails begin to work their magic.

SLVJ is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, offering an unforgettable experience in terms of sound and lighting. On the covered terrace, you can enjoy breathtaking views, while in the main room you can enjoy exotic flavours surrounded by lush décor. It is the perfect venue for exclusive events.

Blaky Group were chosen for the sound installation of this venue. They had to make a different installation for each space. For the indoor terrace they used Juno JN-8T loudspeakers, which have an ideal power for this type of installation and an elegant design that does not clash with the decoration of the venue.

For the main room, HR-26 passive loudspeakers have been installed, as they offer an excellent power-to-size ratio. They are easy to install on the wall thanks to dedicated accessories and offer selectable bi-amp or passive operation.

As low frequency reinforcement, a BS-112 subwoofer has been installed, a compact subwoofer enclosure with 12″ speaker (3″ voice coil) in bandpass configuration reaching 126 db SPL.

On the ground floor, which is the disco area, 12 HR-26s have been installed to ensure coverage of the whole area and an HR-18/10 subwoofer as low frequency reinforcement in the DJ booth. The HR-18/10 are subwoofers with one 18” low frequency in bass reflex, direct radiation configuration, which reach up to 135 dB SPL.

SLVJ is committed to fusion cuisine, showing a more casual side of Japanese gastronomy, using robata, a Japanese grill. In Valencia, the chef in charge of preparing the dishes is Fermín Azkue.

The cocktails have been designed by Borja Goikoetxea, the best bartender in Spain in 2019 by the World Class Competition, and who has worked in top-level venues. His proposal includes reinvented classics and several cocktails of his own creation.

In charge of the décor is the prestigious interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who makes extensive use of bright colours evoking certain parts of Africa and Asia to bring the SLVJ concept to life, highlighting the use of monkey figures in the main room or a giant rhinoceros presiding over the party area.

The SLVJ group has establishments in Panama, Bogota, Madrid, Miami and Barcelona, and continues to expand around the world.

La Diva, the most chic restaurant inspired by the 20s

La Diva, the most chic restaurant inspired by the 20s

La Diva is one of the most chic restaurants in Valencia, which opened its doors just over a year ago and is located near Calle Colón, the city’s shopping hub. Entering La Diva is like going back in time to the roaring 20s. The objective of the restaurant is to make you feel like a Diva; from its elegant and extravagant decoration to its unique gastronomy, the result of the fusion of flavours from around the world.

The decoration is its hallmark, being elegant and striking at the same time. This spacious restaurant has different decorations that divide each area according to use. Its strong point is not only its setting, but also the gastronomy. La Diva offers a gastronomic journey that seeks to create original and innovative dishes that offer exquisite flavour in every bite.

In this restaurant, the sound system is key, since it not only uses ambient music to complete the diners’ experience, but at night the restaurant is transformed into a nightclub, so it needs versatile and powerful equipment capable of working in both environments.

From Thursday to Saturday nights, DJ’s enter the scene and the restaurant is transformed into a nightclub. From 11 p.m., the diners’ tables begin to be cleared and they are offered to go to the entrance bar for a cocktail or to the bathroom area that has a DJ in the booth. As the diners finish, the main room is cleared and transformed into a dance floor, and the venue into a nightclub.

In La Diva, small QB-5 installation enclosures have been installed, painted in different RAL colours to blend in with the decoration and not damage the setting. They have been placed in areas such as the bathrooms, the entrance and the bar area to offer a reinforcement for background music. These are the smallest systems among Lynx Pro Audio’s products, with a 5″ transducer, 90ºconic dispersion and 110 dB SPL (160W program).

The dancefloor is covered by a powerful installation of HR-1596/7, HR-8 and BS-12 enclosures. The HR-15 and HR-8 are found surrounding the entire main room, in white and gold, and the BS-12 are the sound reinforcement in the DJ booth.

Both the HR-1596/7 and the HR-8 are basic in an installation of these characteristics.  HR-1596/7 is a full range, two way bi-amp/passive cabinet, with 700 W power. It consists of a 15” transducer and a 1.4” high frequency compression driver, with two dispersion options. Regarding HR-8 system, it is a passive, lightweight and very versatile enclosure with an 8” transducer with neodymium magnet and a 1” high frequency compression driver. It offers 125 dB SPL (600 W program). It is an excellent solution for all types of fixed projects and has a complete range of accessories to facilitate its installation.

The BS-12 is the ideal enclosure for this type of installation as it offers a wide range of applications (fixed, frontal and stage monitor installations). In this case, it’s installed in the DJ booth. BS-12 is a compact two-way passive enclosure, with a 12″ loudspeaker for low frequencies and a 1” driver coupled to a 90º x 60º rotatable diffuser for high frequencies.

La Diva seems to have been taken from a design catalogue, with very striking decoration and furniture, a play of lights to create more exclusive environments, use of videomapping on the walls of the main room, decorative palm trees, etc. This venue was also a candidate in 2022 for the Restaurant & Bars Design Awards.

Ron Arad 720º, an immersive exhibition in Valencia

Ron Arad 720º, an immersive exhibition in Valencia

This summer we have been able to enjoy the immersive artistic experience called “Curtain Call”, an eight-meter-high curtain made up of more than 5,000 silicone rods, on whose surface images and videos are projected being able to see them both from inside and out.

The “Ron Arad 720” exhibition, organized by the Hortensia Herrero Foundation in “La Marina” of Valencia, is a multimedia exhibition in which technology and art come together, forming impressive projections. The work has been designed by the renowned Israeli artist Ron Arad and has arrived in Valencia after passing through London, Jerusalem and Singapore.

Sound has been one of the keys to recreate a unique experience, amplifyng the impact of the pictures and videos of the projection.

The installation has been carried out by Nunsys. They decided to install HR-1296/7 cabinets on the structure and HR-18/6 subwoofers for low-frequency reinforcement. The cabinets were raised on the center of each truss to provide a uniform 360 degree coverage. From any angle the sound was clear and powerful.

The HR-1296/7 cabinets are essential install systems with a 129 dB SPL power, with a wide dispersion of 90º x 60º (rotatable).  It is a high performance, ultra-compact, full range, two way bi-amp/passive cabinet with a 12″ transducer and a 1.4″ high frequency compression driver.

The projected images are the work of artists such as Javier Mariscal & David Shrigley, SDNA, Mat Collishaw or Greenaway & Greenaway. This immersive work is part of the official program of the World Design Capital Valencia 2022.

Below we have a video of the set up process in “La Marina”:
