Audio installation for the Lady of Joy church in Zahle

Audio installation for the Lady of Joy church in Zahle

In the hills of Zahle, Lebanon, the newly built Saydet El Farah (Lady of Joy) Orthodox Church opens its doors for the first time. Designed as a place of worship, reflection, and tradition, the space combines contemporary architecture with the timeless rituals of the Orthodox faith.

This is also a landmark achievement: the first Russian-style Orthodox church in Lebanon, built under the guidance of Metropolitan Niphon Saykaly, the representative of the Patriarchate of Antioch to the Moscow Patriarchate.

With large reflective surfaces, soaring ceilings, and limited natural absorption, the building presents the kind of acoustic challenges that demand a system focused on vocal intelligibility and directional control. Understanding these requirements, and in collaboration with our Lebanese distributor Eltek, Lynx Pro Audio provided a tailored audio installation designed to deliver clarity while respecting the visual integrity of the space.

To achieve this, the solution centered on Ionic column loudspeakers, well-suited for reverberant environments and highly controlled coverage. The main system is built around the Ionic V28, a passive two-way column speaker housing eight 4” drivers. With a narrow vertical and 100° horizontal dispersion pattern, the V28 ensures that energy is focused toward the congregation, minimizing reflections from hard surfaces like stone floors or vaulted ceilings. This helps maintain speech clarity throughout the space without the need for excessive SPL or corrective EQ.

Ionic Series: Designed for reverberant spaces

Supporting this setup are several Ionic V24 units. Each V24 includes four 4” drivers with 1” voice coils and a 1” high-frequency compression driver coupled to a waveguide. With a nominal impedance of 16 Ω, the V24 is ideal for extending coverage to side aisles or auxiliary zones. Its compact design and tonal consistency with the V28 allow the two models to function together seamlessly, eliminating the need for delay speakers even in long, narrow spaces.

Both columns feature a slim profile and white finish, ensuring unobtrusive integration into the church’s architectural design. Installation was carried out with concealed wiring and custom mounting, preserving the aesthetic continuity of the sanctuary while optimizing acoustic performance.

A balanced, clear system for worship

The result is a system that balances technical precision with architectural sensitivity. From the altar to the last pew, speech remains clear and intelligible, supported by a robust yet discreet setup. This project stands as a reference for how Lynx Pro Audio’s Ionic series can meet the demands of modern houses of worship achieving reliable, high-performance results without compromising the spiritual and visual atmosphere of the space.

BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi from Lynx Pro Audio

BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi from Lynx Pro Audio

The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi (UAE) is a project undertaken by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha and Lynx Pro Audio technology.

The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi (UAE), is a traditional Hindu mandir built by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921–2016) and consecrated by Mahant Swami Maharaj on 14 February 2024, this is the first traditional Hindu mandir in Abu Dhabi.

In August 2015, the UAE government announced they would provide the land for the mandir. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, gifted 27 acres of land for the mandir.

The challenge of acoustically equipping a sacred space such as the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi was one that Lynx Pro Audio masterfully addressed. Opened on 14 February 2024, this first traditional Hindu mandir in Abu Dhabi required a sound system that respected the ancient architecture while offering an immersive listening experience. The solution, a combination of precise acoustic design and state-of-the-art audio technology, has resulted in a space where sound becomes a unifying element between the spiritual and the technical.

The main auditorium of the BAPS Hindu Mandir is equipped with a powerful and advanced sound system to ensure crystal-clear audio for large gatherings and events.

 – CLS-212 : Provides dynamic and immersive sound for the main auditorium.

CLS-218S and CLS-118S Subwoofers: Deliver deep bass that complements the main audio array, enriching the auditory experience.

Strategically placed audio units ensure that both the exterior and interior spaces of the temple are enveloped in high-quality sound, creating a serene and immersive environment.

Over 200 Ionic-5CXV Units: These units are installed to welcome visitors with traditional soothing sounds outside and enhance the acoustic ambiance inside various rooms.

A comprehensive range of audio equipment has been installed throughout the mandir complex to ensure consistent and superior sound quality across all areas.

 – JN-6T and JN-8T Cabinets: Versatile audio solutions for different spaces within the mandir.

WCX-8, IONIC-100/OD, and QB-5Speakers: Ensure uniform sound distribution throughout the complex.

SUB-08 and GTX Series Amplifiers: Provide robust amplification, enhancing the overall audio experience.

IXP-4 and IXP-6 Ceiling Speakers: Over 400 units installed for seamless audio coverage.

Construction process

– Legalisation and Commencement: In September 2019, the mandir gained legal status and construction commenced in December 2019.

– Materials and Dimensions: Constructed from pink sandstone from northern Rajasthan and marble from Italy, the mandir stands 108 feet tall, 262 feet long, and 180 feet wide.

– Volunteer Contribution: Over 200 volunteers from various countries dedicated more than 690,000 hours towards the construction.

This is the first Hindu stone mandir to undergo complete digital modeling and seismic simulations during the construction process.  The mandir is a symbol of interfaith harmony, representing the UAE’s and India’s good relations to foster understanding, acceptance, and unity among people of different religious backgrounds.

Accordingly, the mandir carvings not only incorporate stories from the RamayanaShiva PuranaBhagavatamMahabharata, and the lives of Hindu figures, but also stories from Arabian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Native American, and other civilizations.

Multifunctional spaces

The BAPS Hindu Mandir complex includes a variety of facilities, each benefiting from the advanced audio technology installed throughout.

– Traditional Hindu Mandir: A serene space for worship, enhanced by superior audio quality.

– Visitor Centre and Prayer Halls: Equipped with state-of-the-art sound systems for informative and meditative experiences.

– Exhibition and Learning Areas: Facilitated by clear and engaging audio presentations.

– Children’s Sports Area and Thematic Gardens: Background music and announcements delivered through high-quality speakers.

– Food Court and Gift Shop: Enjoy a pleasant atmosphere with ambient sound.

Baptist church sound reinforcement upgraded in Nordhorn, Germany

Baptist church sound reinforcement upgraded in Nordhorn, Germany

The Baptistenkirche Nordhorn, as its German name suggests, is a Baptist church located in Nordhorn, Germany. Tom Fuhrmann, Pro Audio consultant in Pan-pro GmbH, has been in charge of the church sound reinforcement.

Baptistenkirche Nordhorn is a religious community that aims to help others to know Jesus, to be inspired by him and to increase their faith in him. It is a community committed to the well-being of the people of its city.

The church needed to upgrade its sound systems for a clear voice reproduction and the installer decided to set up IONIC column speakers, which are designed for reverberant installations such as houses of worship. These column speakers are lightweighted, providing easy set ups in fixed installations.

The installer chose the following set-up:  3 x IONIC 100 for main area, 7 x IONIC 50 for senior space and under balcony, 1 x IONIC 18S all feeded by Yamaha MTX5D and RS4-4000 amplifiers.

Tom Fuhrmann stated: “It has been found that the IONIC series from Lynx Pro Audio delivers excellent results, specially in acoustically demanding rooms. Significantly improved speech intelligibility and a balanced sound image were decisive for the customer’s satisfaction.

In white colour, these cabinets are a low profile, discreet column, melting in the church’s white environment. Fuhrmann stated that the customers “are happy with installation”.

In the main area we find 3 Ionic-100 passive column speakers. The Ionic-100 uses 12 x 3″ (0.75″ voice coil) neodymium transducers offering a coverage of 15º +/-5º V x 100º H and 121dB SPL.

For senior space and under balcony we find 7 Ionic-50 passive column speakers. The Ionic-50 is a compact column speaker with 6 x 3” (0.75” voice coil) neodymium transducers offering a coverage of 15º +/-5º V x 100º H and 119dB SPL.

As low frequency reinforcement, we find the powered subwoofer Ionic-18S. This subwoofer uses 1 x 18” (3” voice coil) neodymium transducers with 132 dB SPL.

The installation was feeded by an RS4-4000 amplifier, designed for professionals who demand quality, reliability and value.

The Ionic series are available in a variety of colours/finishes by request, in this case, white RAL colour. As standard the full-range cabinets are finished in anti-rust steel and the subs in rugged, premium birch plywood, coated with polyurea paint. All are protected by front steel grills and backed with a special triple layer, acoustic textile which allows greater air flow and reduces heat and humidity.

Lynx Pro Audio sound at San Jacinto Church in Seville

Lynx Pro Audio sound at San Jacinto Church in Seville

The church of San Jacinto in Seville (Andalusia, Spain) is the temple of a Dominican convent founded in the 17th century. It is located between San Jacinto and Pagés del Corro streets, in the famous Triana district. Audiovisuales Morato has been in charge of installing professional sound systems of Lynx Pro Audio in this place of worship.

In the world of professional sound, houses of worship are renowned as challenging. Clear sound as well as avoiding reverberation is essential. For this reason 4 Ionic 100 column speakers have been used, finished in white respecting the visual harmony of the chapel.

In addition, 12 small 5CX white speakers have been installed throughout the sanctuary, discrete but powerful, this ultra compact passive coaxial speaker provides easy set ups in fixed installation, with weight left as low as possible.

Ionic series systems are easy to use and have a complete range of accessories that make it easy to install in any kind of project. These are the ideal solution for installations in houses of worship where a discrete design is required

Historical facts:

The Dominicans built this church in the 17th century, collapsed in May 1730 and had to rebuild a new one. In 1740 the construction of the new church began and two years later one of the vaults collapsed, but the works continued and finally in 1774 the construction was finished. The inauguration took place on January 29, 1775.

However, in 1810 with the French invasion the convent was used as a stable and the friars could not return until three years later. Between 1868 and 1869 the convent became municipal property and offices and a primary school were installed, for which some units of the convent were demolished. The Dominicans returned in 1906 and built a new convent next to the temple and finally in 1966 they granted the church the rank of parish.
